Create a PDF report

Turn any scan into an auditable PDF — with the camera image, the validation result and your notes.

4 min No prior knowledge needed

A scan on a phone is quick — and just as quickly gone. For complaints, audits or feedback to a supplier you need something in writing: a document showing which code was scanned when, what was in it and what did not fit.

That is the PDF report. It comes out of any scan in four taps and can be sent by e-mail right away — no detour via a computer.

What you need

  • The barValid app on your phone
  • A barcode to scan
  • If the report should carry a name: an operator name set in the settings

Step by step

  1. Scan a barcode

Scan as usual. You land on the result screen with all decoded fields and the validation verdict.
  2. Start the report

Tap Create report on the result screen. The report options open.
  3. Keep the camera image

At the top you see the image taken during the scan. It goes into the report and documents which label was actually in front of the camera.
    The report options
  4. Add more photos (optional)

Via Photo you can take additional pictures — the damaged packaging, the whole pallet or the delivery note.
  5. Write your notes

The Notes field is where you record what this is about. “Goods-in delivery 4711, shelf life too short” is worth more in three weeks than the best barcode on its own.
  6. Save or share it

    Finally you have two options:
    • Print / save — produces the PDF and stores it or sends it to a printer.
    • Share — hands the PDF straight to e-mail, a messenger or your cloud.
    The finished PDF report

Done — that’s all there is to it.

What the report is good for day to day

  • Supplier complaints: instead of “your barcode is wrong” you send the PDF that states exactly which field is missing.
  • Quality assurance: spot checks are documented with image and timestamp and stay traceable.
  • First article inspection: check the label once before the series starts and send the report for approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the finished report?
Date and time, the scanned barcode, the code type, the decoding field by field, the code structure used, the overall result (OK or error), your camera image, your photos and your notes.
How does my name get onto the report?
Via Menu → Settings → Operator name. The name you set there appears on every report — useful when several people inspect.
How many reports are free?
Five per month. After that you can unlock another five by watching a short ad, or create unlimited reports with barValid Pro.
Where is the PDF stored?
Wherever you put it — Android shows you its usual save dialog. Using “Share” the report can also go straight to an e-mail address without being stored first.
Can I hide the legend at the end?
Yes, via Menu → Settings → Hide report legend. The explanation of the symbols is then dropped and the report gets shorter.
